The Brazillian Central Bank just announced a new step to avoid BRL depreciation. Starting tomorrow, BCB will initiate a program of interventions with fixed amounts and predetermined timeline:

Monday to Thursday : BCB will offer USD 500mio per day on currency swaps
                     Fridays: BCB will offer USS 1bio on USD lines through FX swaps

This program will be extended at least until 31^st of December 2013 and if necessary, additional offers will be made. Considering the remaining working days of the year, that means $37bio additional to the $ 41bio BCB already sold.

We think this will bring considerable relief to BRL in the short term, not only because of the amount of the offers but mainly because it hasn´t conditioned its intervention to a specific level of the currency.
